Conventions of different genres

Today we looked at conventions two different genres; rap and indie. They have a very contrasting ideas and very different audiences therefore this shows the importance of knowing your target audience and making something relevant to them.

Rap

• Cars
• Glamorous girls
• Hand gestures
• Big crowds
• Objectifying women
• Urban settings
• Black people
• Sportswear

Indie

• Instruments
• Well dressed
• Calm and not aggressive
• Simple video, with a random concept
• High production
• Artistic and imaginative
• No sexism

The two genres we looked at are complete contrast  but it does prove that there are clear conventions to genres that often come from the type of person the artist is.
